My First Attempts. Gross.

These are the first meme assignments from the first week of the course (please don't judge me). Thanks.

LOL Cats

For this first meme, we used a sample xhtml that jessica mullen provided. The directions were to take one of the following headlines and create a memette about the topic. We then had to post our results and comment on that day's lecture with our URL. The topics included: Giant sinkhole swallows oil equipment in southeastern Texas, Texas teens tell police they converted skull into bong, and Plastic bag conquers Google Street View.

Don't Touch Me.

The Directions: Take any of the following headlines and create 5 memettes about the topic(s). Focus on using background images and colors. use a linked style sheet. Choose the best one and write a 5-6 sentence paragraph about why you made the decisions that you did. Explain your concept. Take a screenshot of the memette and create a thumbnail to post to the class blog.

I find it interesting (even with humans), that just because someone or something is laughing, it is assumed that they are enjoying the situation. The rat in the experiment obviously can not verbally communicate with the researcher, so it can never be known if the rat wants to be tickled. It’s the same with humans. You know, like when someone is REALLY tickling you, and you want them to stop, but you can’t quit laughing? The poor little guy can’t even defend himself. So I decided to post pictures of animals (through facial expressions) that would not find the humor in getting a good tickling.

Hate Crimes

photoshop practice: using an image size of 500×700px at 72ppi, combine the provided images in photoshop to create a narrative. write a caption and include it on the final image. Create a new memette folder and place the image in an xhtml file. Include google analytics and ads on the site and post the thumbnail/link to the blog.

I wanted to play off of the ghost-like quality the camera captured in the Union Station Photo. So I turned the situation into a liberated, train station patron punching the ‘ghost’ guard in the face. The crime was caused by hate towards the guard’s obvious differences. (and b/c he “ain’t afraid of no ghosts”)
